18 Basic Grammar Rules With Examples

Here are some basic grammar rules that can help improve your writing:

Use complete sentences. A complete sentence has a subject and a verb and expresses a complete thought. For example: “The dog ran.”

Use the correct verb tense. Verbs indicate the time an action takes place, so it’s important to use the correct verb tense in a sentence. For example: “The dog runs.” (present tense), “The dog ran.” (past tense), “The dog will run.” (future tense).

Use punctuation correctly. Punctuation helps to clarify the meaning of a sentence by indicating pauses, emphasis, and other important information. For example: “The dog, excited to go for a walk, ran to the door.” (comma used to separate clauses)

Use proper capitalization. In English, proper nouns (names of specific people, places, or things) and the first word of a sentence are always capitalized. For example: “The dog, Max, ran to the park.”

Use the correct pronoun. Pronouns take the place of nouns in a sentence, so it’s important to use the correct pronoun to avoid confusion. For example: “The dog ran to his owner.” (using the pronoun “his” to refer to the dog)
