Examples of Active and Passive Voice in Different Verb Tenses

The verb tense in the sentences changes depending on the time frame in which the action is taking place. The active and passive voice can be used in any verb tense, from present simple to future perfect continuous.

Verb Tense Active Voice Passive Voice
Present Simple I write a letter. A letter is written by me.
Present Continuous She is baking a cake. A cake is being baked by her.
Present Perfect They have finished the project. The project has been finished by them.
Present Perfect Continuous He is teaching the class. The class is being taught by him.
Past Simple The dog bit the postman. The postman was bitten by the dog.
Past Continuous The teacher was giving the students a test. The students were being given a test by the teacher.
Past Perfect She had made dinner for her family. Dinner had been made for her family by her.
Past Perfect Continuous The hurricane had destroyed many homes. Many homes had been destroyed by the hurricane.
Future Simple He will paint the room. The room will be painted by him.
Future Continuous The fire will be burning down the building. The building will be being burned down by the fire.
Future Perfect We will have had a party this weekend. A party will have been had by us this weekend.
Future Perfect Continuous The cat will have been catching the mouse. The mouse will have been being caught by the cat.
